Five Things I Love About Paris…So Far

1. My local cafe – Le Saint Regis. What is there to say about the oeufs I have dreamt about when I lived stateside? The cafe is friendly, has a wide variety of deliciousness for every meal and they are kind to let you hang and read a book while the world passes. Top notch people watching as well – I once saw Daniel Day Lewis reading his book and drinking coffee and literally no one gave him a second glance. So be cool and not not cool as the Countess Luann would say if you go.

2. The Flowers Seriously, Paris has the flower game DOWN. Between the cut flowers and the plants – it is just a miracle of smells and textrues. The little flower shop on Ile Saint Louis has the perfect peonies and doesn’t appear on Google Maps. The flower market on ÃŽle de la Cité has an amazing number of things to plant in your window boxes (which will be an ENTIRE post).

3. The Purse Ottomans One of the cutest and most charming thing is the fancy restaurants do not want your fancy bags on the floor – so they have little ottomans they set next to you so your bag has its own seat at the table. I went to Pavyllon to eat their lovely Champs-Élysées menu and it was the best meal I’ve ever had. I felt high afterwards.

4. My Apartment on Ile Saint Louis I’m incredibly lucky that I have clients that value me and let me work from Paris instead of the states. The fact my apartment is massive by Paris standards with tons of the light and a guest bedroom so my friends and family can visit is just the best. Is it constantly dusty without work? Yes, but it was built in the 1600s. Is there no air conditioning? Also, yes. Is doing laundry a chore with a combo unit? Sure. But I live on an island in the middle of the Seine with some of the best shops, restaurants, and it is an easy walk to the lines that go up and down both the Right and Left Banks. The literal dream.
5. I love art. So MUCH. One of my first acts was to join the Amis du Louvre with a plus one. This allows me to explore the museum frequently and sit on one of the comfy spots and read surrounded by the greatest art in the world. The other great thing is that they have art bus tours of the surrounding areas and I’m going to take a tour of a castle art collection and have fancy lunch for only 40 euros.
